Puppies Playing Together

Over the last few days, the puppies have become increasingly aware of one another. It is quite entertaining to witness these first social interactions. They clumsily pounce, scratch, bite, and chase each other all around the pen. Over the next few days they will mature in their interactions and fine tune all of their motions. At this early stage, it is fun to just sit and watch the interaction of the litter. We will also be watching for the personality development of each puppy. Since they are now able to explore their surroundings and interact with their littermates, we will also see a sudden explosion of each puppy's future personality. It is during these next 3 weeks (until the Personality Obedience Test that occurs at 7 weeks) that we make many observations with regard to the interaction of the litter which help us accurately predict future adult behavior. We watch the puppies with great fervor to see the nuances of each developing personality. Although at this stage, some of the puppies are not fully engaged with one another, they will be within the next few days. The following video shows one of the very first play sessions that we observed. Keep in mind that the relationships seen on this video are just a small reflection of the behaviors that we see throughout the day. Therefore, it is important to remember that this short clip only demonstrates each pup's antics for a few moments. In other words, don't read to much into the social interaction of each puppy because of this short observation alone.
